The name SOIL AND GREEN was derived from soylent green, the name of the food rationed to soldiers in a futuristic film.(see also Soylent Green, movie). The band chose the name because of its wide range of meanings and its relevance to the essence of life which compliments the band's lyrics. (hmmm?)
Formerly a 4-piece act, Soil And Green emerges this September of 2009 with their latest addition to the crew, a more ambient and less noisy mix which make them fit in the "feel good music" category. With Mr. Alvin Ching on guitar2 (which has influences from Angels and Airwaves, Kings Of Leon, Death Cab For Cutie, etc.), the band's sound as a whole evolved positively.
Combining the two guitarists with ambient sounds, the guitar section creates an atmospheric feel that's somehow otherworldly. Then add the counterpointing bass lines, odd drum patterns and light to heavy dirty chorus riffs, poof! You have Soil And Green!
Their lyrics are categorized into two kinds. Love Songs and Rants. LOL. Most songs are generally rebellious and full of rants, discussing about betrayal of friendship, irony and/or sarcasm of drug abuse, hypocrisy of religion and its leaders and indifference of people. And as of the moment, they have also created two love songs. Which are based from the experiences of the band members.
