PiSENLAV (Peace and Love) is an indie band from the Philippines. Formed December 2007, they have already released a five-track E.P. which contains five original songs composed by the band. Their sound is a mix of alternative and pop rock with a hint of reggae and ska with influences ranging from The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Bob Marley, Mr. Big, Oasis, Eraserheads and Regine Velasquez. They have pioneered a new sound of music in the Philippines combining alternative, reggae and pop rock.
The band origin can be traced back with Benmark Favorito (Drummer) and Fernando Se (Bassist) who were bandmates in Ember from the later part of the year 2000. Attending the same university (University of Santo Tomas), they began playing at college events including debut and house parties. The early sound was mainly alternative which the band derived from the profound influences of The Beatles and Eraserheads. In the later part of 2005, they recorded a five-track independent E.P. which was not released. Time passed, various members came and went, and the band's morale dropped to an all time low. Members pursued different interests, hope inevitably died and the band was put on an indefinite hiatus.
Taking another chance in 2006, Fernando contacted Benmark and they acquired Benmark's highschool bandmate, Jethro Estacio (Guitarist) and Fernando's highschool classmate, Jinky Golifardo (Guitarist). They then formed the four piece band Mister Eddie Wagwag. With Benmark (Drummer/Lead Vocals) fronting the band, they went on to play gigs in small bars and campuses. They planned to release an independent album which they recorded with a very low budget at Benmark's crude bedroom studio. They were able to record a five-track E.P. that contains the songs Do You Really, Sagot and the first versions of PiSENLAV's songs namely Love, Fill You Up and Terrestrial Story.
As fate would then have it, Benmark ran into a highschool friend named Kate Lozano (Main Vocals), who was fortunately also into music, having started playing the piano at the age of 4, and immediately got her into the band. With their mixed influences and different musical backgrounds, a new refreshing sound emerged. The band was then called PiSENLAV, a play on the phrase "Peace and Love". Bringing with them a refined musicality as well as an eager business sense, the band set out to create a new phase in music.
